Animal Adaptations Stations

Today we worked on Animal Adaptations Stations.  We used iPads for research about physical and behavioral adaptations, we did a bird beak activity to learn how different beaks help birds to eat different foods, and we learned how blubber helps to keep animals warm in freezing cold water!

SC Native American Presentations

Students enjoyed the opportunity to study SC Native American groups and present their findings to their peers.  We took notes on the work that each group did.

High School Leaders

We had some football players from BSHS come to our class and present some information about how to be drug free, and how to take care of our bodies.  The students enjoyed listening to these guys talk to us about how to live a healthy lifestyle!

Fall Festival!

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Dear Parents,

We will be having Parent-Teacher conferences in the next few weeks.  It is important that every child have a parent attend conferences in order to receive their report card, MAP scores, and address any concerns.  I have arranged an online sign-up schedule for the dates and times available for October 21 and 23, 2014.  This website will allow you to sign up for your preferred time, making it easy for you to schedule multiple conferences if you have more than one child at Oakland.   I have directions for signing up at the bottom of this page.
Thanks for signing up!  I look forward to meeting with you.

We're using VolunteerSpot (the leading online signup and reminder tool) to organize our upcoming signups.

Here's how it works in 3 easy steps:

1) Type in this link to see our Sign-Up on VolunteerSpot:  http://vols.pt/CXSMjp

2) Review the options listed and choose the spot you prefer.

3) Sign up! It's Easy - you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on VolunteerSpot.

Note: VolunteerSpot does not share your email address with anyone.

  • The earlier you sign up, the better your chances of getting the time you want.
  • If you have a child in another classroom, please let me know your child’s name and their teacher’s name so I can notify their teacher of the time you have requested via VolunteerSpot or in writing.  We try our best to schedule conferences by coordinating with other teachers to make it easier for parents to attend.

Last Friday

Fourth grade hosted an assembly introducing the "Buddy Bench" at Oakland.  It was inspired by the book Wonder.

They did a great job!

We also heard from the Boiling Springs Firefighters, please check to make sure all your smoke alarms are working!  If you need some installed in your home, please let me know and I can get you connected with the Fire Department so they can help!

Fall Basket Letter

Dear Parents,

For the Fall Festival at Oakland, our class has been asked to make a basket for the silent auction.  The theme for our class basket is “Gardening.”  To help out with the purchase/creation of the basket, I am asking for your help!  We need gardening supplies to fill our basket!  You can purchase these supplies, or send in money (cash) with your student to help cover the cost of the class basket.

Some items that would be useful for our basket are:

  • Gardening gloves
  • Small clay pots
  • Seed packets
  • Plant starter kits
  • Trowel/small rake
  • Twine string
  • Bug Spray
  • A gardening hat
  • Watering can/pail

If you would rather bring in money (cash) to help, please send in any amount you can afford, $5-$10 would be a great start. Please indicate below how you want to help our class for the OES Fall Festival silent auction basket. J Don’t forget to check out our basket when you visit the festival later this month!

Thanks,

Ms. Eckroth & Class

Please return the bottom half of your letter with the item or money you are donating by Tuesday, Oct. 14. Thank you so much for your help and support for our class!
